Falling You: "A Thread of Happiness"
This second collaboration takes a much different stylistic turn. The title is actually "[Trying to Weave] A Thread of Happiness [From One Day to the Next]" and as such the vocal lines wind around each other with a delicate lilt. The result is a light moment of wordless sound-poetry taking inspiration from her looping work for Love Spirals Downwards.
Given a specific theme of Jupiter in Ovid's Metamorphoses, Jennifer grounded the vocals in the literature and lore. Seizing on the many rapes of the god, she spun out a chant of the names of the women and goddesses wronged with the Latin words "remember them". Over this is a descant of lament and rage, reminiscent of Peter Gabriel's soundtrack to The Last Temptation of Christ'
This single captures the feeling of malaise and helplessness amid a world rushing forward, trying to crush our spirits. In the face of uncertainty and dread, all we can do is slide down the hourglass, and treasure what few diamonds we come across.
Prosthetic Patient is a dark synthpop/electro-industrial act pulling melodic beep boops from the ether of mankind's collective subconscious. For this song, Jennifer wrote lyrics and created melodies and harmonies to align with the sentiment of the instruments.

Melodic guitar work interlocks with the thrumming bass and drums to create a sinister musical backdrop for the darkly metaphorical vocals. The choir lifts the song to a different level, adding an ethereal quality. (2022)
This album of lullabies and laments closes with the sublimely formidable “Gunwale”: a tumultuous journey of love brought to life by the metaphor of a ship at sea, ultimately dashed on the rocks. The full choir contributes to the sense of tension with a sense of warmth to this doomed voyage. (2022)

The framework of the traditional Latin mass used to explore the sacred roots of iconic African-American spirituals that evolved into protest anthems of the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s. It is strident call to find strength in your beliefs, your roots, and your community. (2019)

"Jennifer very bravely let me do whatever the heck I wanted with her vocals; we worked back and forth on these for a bit, and I think the results are stunning." A chance meeting at SFSU in 1992 led to a collaboration with Suzanne Perry and Ryan Lum of Love Spirals Downwards. In their tiny SF flat, Jennifer and Suzanne wove vocal lines that dance around each other to form “Depression Glass”, with lyrics written by Jennifer (an adaptation of her poem). “Sunset Bell” came as a surprise when Ryan introduced Jennifer to the loop pedal. Growing up and growing apart, this music video explores the essence of the conflict. Animatic storyboards developed at the conceptual phase for scene blocking of parallel storylines. On-location night shoots (handheld and gimbal) in historic North Beach and the Broadway Tunnel of San Francisco spanning multiple nights. Action synched to drum line as a special nod to the band’s new drummer. Editing included exensive use video effects and transitions.

Archival footage from the famous Night of the Living Dead film is interspersed with shots of performers. Multiple night shoots (using a gimbal) in Alameda near the U.S.S. Hornet, and overhead studio shots. Extensive video effects, video layers, and color grading.

Leading the viewer through the winding and unwinding in relationships through use of live shots and found footage. Location scouting for remote scenic location; editing process used found footage with green screen to add an element of distance from the subject.

Inspired by the film The Blair Witch Project, this coastside wooded location was scouted to create a sinister feeling of mystery. Early morning shoots to avoid foot traffic and get the exact angle of sunlight filtering through the trees. Costume and makeup by Jennifer, witch symbols by local artist Lauren Parker.

A hard hitting visual representation of this dark remix. Strobing studio shots with simple backdrop were used, lit to create a sense of menace. Found footage added to paint a picture of isolation and peril. Editing included extensive color grading to blend the styles of the footage for a more cohesive look.
